Background and Research

In 2018, the
Australian Government established a Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and
Safety.  The Royal Commission has
recently completed and published its Interim Report.  The report is in three (3) volumes (you can
see all parts of the report on the Commission’s web site).  In the Conclusion section of Volume 1 of the
Interim Report (attached), the Royal Commission
sets out seven (7) key issues or themes that it intends to examine over the
remainder of the term of the Royal Commission.

In this assignment
you need to read and review the seven (7) themes that the Royal Commission has
set out in its report.  You should select
one (1) of those themes (that interests you) and you then research and write a
brief on what is the current situation in respect to that chosen issue in
Australia in Aged Care at this time.

This Assignment or Task – what you are asked
to do

1. Review the 2019 “Interim Report: Neglect”
   Volume 1 of the Royal Commission into Aged Care and Quality and Safety – copy attached.
2. Specifically read the ‘Conclusion’ section of the
   report pages 253 to 258
3. You
   select: on page 256 of the report, the Commission sets out 7 issues that they
   will explore in future hearings and work of the Commission – you need to select only 1 of those issues from the 7 listed that
   interests you and that will be your topic for your assignment.
4. Provide an insightful briefing or outline
   on the issue area you selected in relation to the aged care system in Australia.  In preparing your
   brief or outline you will be explaining what occurs in this country in that
   issue area.
