Introduction

Most people believe that having a child is a blessing and it is no wonder that the birth of a child is celebrated with a lot of happiness. However, there are some people who are opposed to the idea of having children because of many reasons. These include; lack of enough money to take care of children and even the fact that the mother might have a physical or emotional condition that does not allow them to sufficiently take care of a child. On the contrary, I believe that there is a genuine right to have children as long as an individual can ensure that they take full responsibility for the child. The individual should be able to provide the child with all the needed material, spiritual and emotional needs that will contribute to their well-being. Therefore, this paper will seek to give a critical analysis on the reasons why an individual has a genuine right to have children depending on their capabilities.

 Argument

            The argument that arises in this issue is that the only people who should be allowed to have children are those who have proven that they can take care of them. Also, the only way that society can grow and develop and have many members is when children are born. Furthermore, society has an obligation to ensure that it removes all the existing impediments with regards to the exercise of biological and reproductive functions. These functions are unique to human beings and they include; desire to reproduce, free choice and equal opportunity. In this case, since getting children is a natural process, people should who are not ready to have children should practice safe sex. This will ensure that the woman will get pregnant when she is ready. Children are human beings and they need to be taken care off in the same manner that adults take care of themselves (Stanley 105).  Society does not allow human beings to be mistreated and those found guilty of committing such acts face the consequences. It is no wonder that the Canadian government has come up with a law that ensures parents take care of their children. If they fail to do so, the government takes the children away from them and punishes the parents.

Objections

            Based upon the presented argument, the objection is that since a mother originally concedes to the issue of conception, a mother has thus entered into a contract. It means that they have a contract with the fetus and if they undergo an abortion, it does not mean that they are violating a contract. This doctrine has quite a number of problems, but at the same time a future promise cannot be an enforceable contract. The only time that a contract is properly enforceable is when a violation exists and it has involved implicit theft. And when focusing on this argument, a contract does not exist. The reason is because the fetus cannot in any way be described as being a consciously and voluntary contracting entity. Also, based upon a libertarian theory point of view, there is a notion of inalienability of the will. It dictates that it not permissible to enforce slave contracts, which are voluntary (Mappes & Degrazia 132). Even in a scenario whereby a contract existed, it could not be possible to enforce it since the will of the mother is inalienable. Therefore, the mother cannot be enslaved legitimately into having or carrying a baby, if it is against her will or wishes. The objection based on the anti-abortionist argument is that right to life has to be respected. However, the presented concept is quite ambiguous since accepted property rights that are often implied are available in the right to self-ownership. This is similar to an individual having to be free from any form of aggression.

            There are many replies, which exist concerning if really there is a genuine right concerning having children. In fact, a number of organizations have been established to ensure that only competent and capable people have children. The organization seeks to ensure that governments have laws that protect the rights of children as well as safeguarding their interests. In turn, many governments around the world have been able to come up with laws that dictate who can have children (Stanley 145). This has ensured that people who have no intentions of taking care of their children once they are born think twice. This serves as a determent to people who just want to have children and later abandon them. Such individuals should face the law and be given severe punishments so that are aware of their actions.

Genetic conditions are key reasons as to why some people should not bear children. Parents with genetic conditions should look for other alternatives of having children such as adoption. This ensures that they do pass the genetic conditions to their children and they can still maintain their right to have children (Stanley 200). Also, the right to have children should not be given to individuals who are known to be abusive or take drugs. It is highly likely that they will subject their children to harsh living conditions as they will constantly mistreat them. A criterion for individuals who want to have children should be established to avoid many cases of children running away from home because they were not well taken care off. On the other hand, it is universally accepted that the right to have children cannot be denied to people who have the interests of the child at heart. Children should be well taken care off in a conducive environment that promotes their well-being.

Conclusion

            In conclusion, parents have a right to have children so long as they do not pose any harm to them. A parent has an obligation, which is legal to educate, clothe and feed their children, and this is entailed on positive acts that focus upon depriving the parent of his or her rights. Ethics play a key role in determining if people should have the right to have children. In this case, it is unethical to murder to fetus, while at the same time, if the life of a pregnant mother is in danger, then abortion would not be viewed as being unethical. It seems that now scientists have succeeded in creating test tube babies in their various laboratories. The creator is thus the scientist and they must have an obligation, which is legal when trying to keep a child alive. Indeed, there is no genuine right concerning the right of a person to have children.
