Choose one of the following topics that you are interested in researching.

Developmental Psychology Topics:

• What factors play into learning languages and language learning capabilities?
• How can parental development influence child development?
• Do children learn better through sign language or through verbal communication?
• What are different parenting styles and how does it affect the physical activity level and mental development of the infant.
• Is music a good way to teach the young brains?
• Are free range parents better than helicopter mom and dad or vice versa, which one is better for the kid?
• Does teaching infants sign language help or hinder the language acquisition process?
• How do parenting styles impact a child’s level of physical activity? Are children raised by parents with permissive or uninvolved parents less active than those raised by parents with authoritative or authoritarian styles?
• How does bullying impact student achievement? Are bullied students more likely to have worse grades than their non-bullied peers?
• Do children who eat breakfast perform better in school than those who do not eat breakfast?
• Does birth order have an impact on procrastination? Are first-borns less likely to procrastinate? Are last-borns more likely to put off tasks until the last minute?
• What role do the media have to play in facilitating violence?
• What factors create violence in children?

• Are older adults who rate high in self-efficacy more likely to have better memory than those with low self-efficacy?
• How do explanations for the behavior of others change as we age? Are younger adults more likely to blame internal factors for events and older adults more likely to blame external variables?
• Do mental games such as word searches, Sudoku, and word matching help elderly adults keep their cognitive skills sharp?
• Do the limits of short-term memory change as we age? How do the limits of short-term memory compare at ages, 15, 25, 45, and 65?
• Or other approved topic of interest.

Parental Styles and Child Development

In a minimum of 3 pages fully address your topic. Use analysis and critical thinking to support your findings. You will need to locate and use research on the topic. NCLive has a great database full of free research articles. NCLive is located in the SCC LRC website.

• Double Spaced
• Correct grammar and spelling
• 3 full pages content
• Minimum of 3 scholarly resources
• APA Citations and References Required.

Your paper must include a reference page and INTERNAL CITATIONS. If you do not have an APA reference page or internal citations, you WILL receive a ZERO, because you have plagiarized!!! When using other people’s thoughts, ideas and/or words you must give them credit (i.e. citations and references section). Plagiarism will not be tolerated, and you will receive a zero for the assignment. When in doubt—cite.

You will need to submit your paper as a Word document. When students submit papers, it will be submitted through Turnitin. However, students will NOT be able to view the Turnitin report. If you need papers proofread, please click on “help” – the question mark in a circle – on the left-hand side of the Canvas page. Then Click on Academic Support Services. This allows you to choose between two types of free tutoring: “In house” peer tutoring or Online 24/7 tutoring with Smarthinking. Please just be aware that you need to allow 48 to 72 hours to receive feedback from either of these. Make corrections and then submit the project by THE DUE DATE.

For this assignment, you may use first person (such as “I”, “we”, “me”, etc.) when discussing why this topic was interesting or your opinion. Please remember that when submitting collegiate work, your opinion should be backed by fact from a reliable source – and reliable sources must be cited and included in the reference section!
