Report Format: Must be written in standard English. Do not leave blank space. The table prepared should not move over to the other page without proper heading.

Title page:

The title of the experiment.
Your name and the names of lab partner if any.
Your instructor’s name.
The date the lab was performed or the date the report was submitted.

Introduction: Give a brief discussion of the purpose of the experiment. For example, “The purpose of this experiment was to determine the atomic mass of zinc using an electrochemical method.” Discuss the principle and theory as the basis for the experiment. NOTE: do not include details of how the experiment is actually performed. (Write this detailed information in the procedure section). Briefly describe the chemical reactions and physical changes that took place in the experiment. State the key mathematical and chemical equations used to analyze the experimental data. If equations are taken from the web, ensure to provide a citation. When writing equations for example ethanol should be written as CH3CH2OH and not CH3CH2OH or Ch3Ch2Oh. Pay attention to uppercases and lower cases.

The introduction is where most of your citation will be included. Use your own words as possible.

Procedure: Must be written in past tense passive voice. Write in paragraph format. Do not list or write the procedure in point form (ie. 1. 2. 3. etc). Provide a brief summary of the procedure you followed to acquire the data, what you actually did in the lab. References can be made to the laboratory handouts. If significant modifications were made from the originally handouts provided, indicate any changes. You may use pictures, but ensure to refer to the pictures in your text. In addition, you may write a summary of exactly how you performed the experiment in your own words as much as possible.

Do not include that the lab was fun, interested, hard, difficult to understand, …..these are all opinions.

Also, no use of first person (I and we), second person (you, your…). The use of third person should be in the form of the passive voice. Omit “my partner and I”, the student did…the student studied the “Separation of Mixtures” reaction. Write….
