In this course, we have focused on a positive, empowering approach to classroom management. Occasionally, we may have diverse students with disabilities in our classrooms who have behavior difficulties, and some of these behaviors may results from academic struggles. The expectation that these children do grade-level work like their non-disabled peers may be frustrating and cause students with disabilities to “shut down” and become unmotivated. One way to address this challenge is through using behavioral and academic accommodations.

As with other mini-interventions in the course, you will need to spend some field experience time in your classroom completing this assignment. Suggested time: 2–4 hours over the next couple of weeks.

Competency 3: Integrate research-based classroom management practices into the learning environment. Develop a plan to implement accommodations, detailing a specific change that could be monitored for results. Competency 4: Analyze the application of special education laws including IEP accommodations and Section 504 plans. Develop ideas for accommodations, including technology, that may be effectively implemented now or in the future. Develop a plan for evaluating the effectiveness of accommodations after they have been implemented.

Instructions

For this assignment, you will identify the accommodations you use in your classroom, including how you use technology for those accommodations. You will also discuss how you will implement, monitor, and evaluate those accommodations. To develop your intervention plan, use the Mini-Intervention 2 template (in Resources) and complete the following:
